And now you have, per C’s wishes. Huzzah and kudos for getting the hang of it so quickly. A few other communication tips I’ve picked up over the years:
“I don’t know”
Means: She doesn’t know.
“Nothing’s wrong.”
Means: Nothing is wrong, or at least, if something is wrong, you had nothing to do with it and there’s nothing you could reasonably be expected to do about it. So there’s no point in telling you.
“I’m not upset”
Means: She’s not upset. Keep up the good work!
The key is not to overthink it. You are on your way already!

Gosh, jdhoosier, it’s too bad you haven’t taken the bar exam yet. Because then you could have prefaced your comment with “As your attorney, I advise you…”
